It is a well-known fact that being a mother and running a business is a full-time job. There is always a romanticised version of what your life as a mother and an entrepreneur will be like, but it rarely happens. You would assume that you will tackle the business while your baby sleeps and be there for your little one whenever they wake up. But the reality is the opposite. Nothing works as you have imagined, and your child wakes up and sleeps at their convenience.
There is little room for anything else since caring for a newborn is a full-time job. Even after your child is a few months old, you will continue to find it difficult to handle both. Managing time and flowing freely as a mother isn’t easy and everyone goes through it. You are not alone, and you can handle it. Your business is your first child and you will not let your aspirations die. Ask for support from your husband, friends, parents, and family, if you still struggle, we have a few tips to help you balance business and motherhood.

Give yourself time to find inspiration
As a new mother, you often spend so much time looking after your child that you are exhausted by the end of the day. But as a business owner, you need to be inspired and filled with new ideas. This will not happen if your mind is cluttered with thoughts. You need to take time for yourself and relax. If you want to bring home service trophies for being the best in the industry, you need to be inspired and motivated.
It could be an extra cup of coffee, music, or even a podcast, anything that sets you in a good mood. Be kind to yourself and understand that each moment is different, and you may not be prepared for some days. You might not succeed at it every day but you need to inspire yourself each day.
Build your community
Most moms believe that it all boils down to the community you have. You will only realize how much you need people when you become a mother. You need to focus on your health, nutrition, and wellness, and you will need support. Ask your family and friends to help you. If you are a business owner, reach out to other mothers in the community who are also running a business and ask them how they managed the transition. Have supportive and positive people around you who will help you be your best version.
Do it for your child
If you cannot find the motivation to get up and go to work every day, look at your child and do better for them. Your little one is watching you, and they will be proud of you when they grow up. When your children see you navigating motherhood and work, they learn so much from you. Your child should inspire you towards excellence, and if you ever feel like giving up, take a day off, but remember, you are your child’s hero.
Learn to let go
Besides the patience, gentleness, and resilience that you have gained throughout your pregnancy, you will also need to learn to let go. While it may not seem easy, it is something that will change you forever. Try to take one day at a time and accept the situation as it is. Lean more on others and empower your team. Let them handle things you cannot control, and as an entrepreneur, you will come across challenges every day, but you may not be able to win over them. It is tough to slow down when you run a business, but you have to. Don’t forget, you have just added a little human in your life, and your body needs all the care you can give. Accept changes, and you will see how smoothly your life progresses.
Build a work schedule that works for you
You might have worked 18 hours back in the day when you were single and building a business, but you no longer can. You must understand that your body needs rest, and your child needs you. Never be so driven in one direction that you forget about your health and well-being. Build a work schedule where you can spend quality time with your child. Add time early in the morning or late in the night when your child is asleep, and take a break mid-day to spend time with the little one.
Ultimately, there is no magic wand to find the balance between running a business and raising a child. There is your aspiration, strength, and the ability to adapt and find a way that works every day. You will never find a single way to manage it all. You must figure out what works for you, what fills your cup, and when to ask for help.
