12 Step-by-Step Seasonal House Cleaning Checklist

Spring is here, which only means one thing. It’s time for spring cleaning! As the weather gets fresher and brighter, it’s only fair that your house feels and looks the same.

Yes, you need to clean the house every day, but there are certain things that need to be cleaned seasonally.

It might sound like a humongous undertaking but when planned properly, spring cleaning isn’t as difficult as it sounds.

When you know exactly what to clean and how to clean, you can do a deep cleaning of the house with ease.

In this article, we will look at the checklist of all the things you need to clean seasonally.

Seasonal Cleaning Checklist

  • Refrigerator

Wash the removable items like bins and shelves in warm, soapy water. Wipe the interior of the fridge with a clean soapy cloth.

Check the expiry dates of the food condiments and throw away the expired ones. Wipe the outside of the fridge like its handles and door seals as well.

  • Fixtures

The lamps, ceiling fans, and chandeliers can accumulate a lot of dust and cobwebs.

Dust and wipe the lamps with a cloth. Use a lint brush if necessary. Make sure you unscrew the bulb before you clean it.

Before you clean the chandeliers and ceiling fans, keep a drop cloth and use an extendable duster to wipe them.

  • Mattresses

Vacuum, deodorize, and air out your mattresses. Use the vacuum’s crevice tool to clean the surface and sides of the mattress. Get bed bug control done to keep bed bugs and mites at bay.

  • Oven

Chip off the loose pieces from the oven. Wipe the inside with a clean, soapy cloth to remove stains.

Use ammonia on burnt-on food and sprinkle baking soda along with few drops of vinegar to clean away stubborn grime.

  • Filters

Swap out the furnace and HVAC filters every few months as they tend to collect dust. If you have allergies or pets, change the filters more frequently. Check the air filters too.

  • Windows

Dust and clean your windows with a glass cleaner and microfiber cloth. Look for stubborn spots and wipe them with soapy water.

Do window cleaning more frequently during the drier, dustier months.

  • Patio Furniture

Wipe down the patio furniture and tables with a mix of warm water and dish detergent. Hose off the solution with water and let it dry.

  • Gutters

Clean the gutters during the spring as a part of your house cleaning. Clear out the debris like leaves and twigs.

This will help prevent mold growth and pest infestation. It will also ensure that the water flows freely during the monsoons.

  • Fireplace

If the chimneys are dirty, blocked, leaking, or cracked, they will present a fire hazard. It will also impact the air quality of the house.

If you cannot do it on your own, schedule an annual cleaning and inspection.

  • Check for Termites

Inspect all the wooden furniture to check for termite infestation. They will damage your furniture to a great degree, so schedule a home termite inspection to get rid of them. Aptive in Texas may be the best people to contact if you live in the Texas area, but similar services exist elsewhere. Do a little research to find the best option for you, and ask for some quotes before deciding.

  • Blinds

Blinds collect dust and grime over time. Use an electrostatic duster to get rid of the grime and then use a soft microfiber cloth. Wipe your blinds with dryer sheets to repel dust.

  • Rugs

You do not have to clean the rugs every few months. If they are not walked on much, you can do rug cleaning once every 2 years. You can hire a reliable carpet and rug cleaning company like Professional Carpet Systems if you have any tough stains or damage you’re unable to get rid of.

Over-cleaning will lead to wear and tear. If it gets stained, clean it immediately before it gets permanent.

Deep cleaning of the house won’t just ensure your home is spic and span but also ensure that there is no pest or bug infestation.

Don’t forget to schedule a pest control to get rid of even the tiniest of pests in the house – both indoors and outdoors.
